Date:November 12, 2024

From November 6 to 8, the Asian Tin Week 2024, with the theme“Securing Sustainable Tin Supply through Innovation and Collaboration”, was successfully convened in Shanghai. During the conference, participants from global tin mines, smelters, traders, and relevant industry research institutions engaged in a collaborative discussion on the future development pathway of the tin industry. Han Shouli, Deputy Chairman and General Manager of Yunnan Tin Group (Holding) Co., Ltd. (YTG), led a delegation to the event and delivered the opening remarks at the conference.

In his remarks, Han Shouli pointed out that tin’s position as a“critical mineral”and a“strategic metal”is on the rise and its use scenarios are expanding, especially in cutting-edge areas like photovoltaic power generation, AI, big data, and new energy vehicles. Tin has emerged as a key representative of“computing power metals”and“green metals”, driving the transformation of the industry’s consumption structure and providing robust momentum for the development of the tin industry. YTG, with the philosophy of“cooperative development and mutual benefit”, is actively promoting all-around development in tin mining, smelting, deep processing, and new materials R&D.

In 2024, YTG launched the Yunnan Tin and Indium Laboratory, dedicated to building a public science and technology service platform for the industry to achieve resource sharing, collaborative industrialization, and solve key technological challenges across tin and indium industrial chains. This lab aims to facilitate clustered breakthroughs and boost technological advancement in the global tin industry. Next, YTG is striving to be the world’s top tin and indium product and solution provider, collaborating with tin industry peers globally to better lead and promote high-quality development of tin and indium industries.

Helen Prins, CEO of International Tin Association (ITA), said in her speech that the demand for tin in electric vehicles, photovoltaics, advanced electronics and AI chips is skyrocketing, bringing new impetus to industry development. She called for collaboration to tackle challenges brought by global supply chain and environmental sustainability through market, technology, and ESG practices.

Chen Xuesen, Vice President of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association (CNIA), delivered a report entitled“Adhering to Green Leadership for High-Quality Development of the Nonferrous Metals Industry”. He said that YTG’s ESG report getting“five star”rating for the first time marks a significant breakthrough in bench-marking against leading enterprises in the ESG domain. He also put forward suggestions for the development of the tin industry from four aspects. These included deepening the green development concept, strengthening resource exploration and acquisition, enhancing self-discipline within the industry, and accelerating the upgrade and transformation of green and intelligent equipment.

Liu Luke, Chairman and General Manager of Yunnan Tin Co., Ltd., participated in the“Conversations with CEO”session, where he exchanged views on the development trends of the tin market in China, the development of tailing projects, and the digitization of smelting plants.

Chen Xiongjun, Deputy General Manager of Yunnan Tin Co., Ltd., shared his thoughts on how enterprises utilize financial instruments to prevent risks and achieve the integration of industry and finance.
